TILE SPECIALTY

Custom Showers

Walk-ins, curbless, slab walls, custom niches. Waterproofed before tile. Built to stay leak-free for the life of the bathroom.

About this service

A custom shower is the most demanding tile work in the house. Naron builds them — pan, walls, niche, glass — with a waterproofing system installed before any tile goes up. Reviews from his Thumbtack customers consistently call out the shower work specifically.

The shower is the part of the house that gets used wet, multiple times a day, every day. The tile and the grout are what you see — the waterproofing is what keeps the framing dry. Naron builds the whole assembly: rough, slope, drain, membrane, tile, grout, seal. One person responsible for the entire stack.

The customer review that says it best is Maryelena M.: “Pulled up the tile and waterproofed so well. Such detailed and awesome work!”

Process

How a custom showers project actually runs.
actually runs.

  1. 01

    Consult

Naron checks the rough plumbing, slope, drain location, and substrate. Curbless work depends on a recessed pan — that decision drives the rough-in conversation.

  2. 02

    Estimate

Pan, waterproofing, tile, glass coordination — itemized. Niche and bench placement is sketched at consult and locked in the estimate.

  3. 03

    Build

Demo, frame the pan, install the drain, set the waterproofing system, then tile. Niches are built into the wall before tile, not cut in after.

  4. 04

    Walk-through

Naron runs the shower, checks the slope to drain, inspects every tile and every grout line. The job isn't done until water moves where it's supposed to.

Answers

Custom Showers — common questions.
ask Naron.

What's the difference between a tiled shower and a prefab insert?

A prefab insert is one piece of fiberglass — fast to install but limited in size, finish, and longevity. A custom tiled shower is built to fit the room and sized to the user. Naron's tile work is what most customers call back about.

Are curbless showers practical in a Utah home?

Yes — and they're worth it for the look and the accessibility. The catch is the rough plumbing has to be set for a recessed pan. New construction is easy. Retrofit is doable but the floor has to be opened up. Naron will tell you straight whether it's the right call for your build.

How do you waterproof under the tile?

Schluter Kerdi sheet membrane, RedGard liquid-applied, or a hybrid — depending on the build. Pan, walls, curb, and corners all sealed before tile. The waterproofing is the part that keeps the shower from rotting the joists; it's not optional.

Do you build the niche and the bench?

Yes — both. They're framed and waterproofed as part of the shower build, not added on. Niche placement is sketched at consult so the size, height, and tile layout are all coordinated.
